Mlm Scam – Selling Products Or Sponsoring? That Is The Question

By: Randy Disert

The MLM industry has always been one of the most polarizing discussions, since its inception. With millions of people involved, it is difficult to believe that this business model may not be legal. Granted there are companies that market their products through Direct Sales, but there is no MLM scam, as an industry. Let us discuss why Network Marketing is a legal business model. The Federal Trade Commission defines a Pyramid Scheme, a name often attributed to the MLM industry, as any company that motivates distributors to sponsor people and not sell products. It continues by explaining that more retail products should be moving through the business and as people are sponsored in, the business will grow.

An illegal Pyramid Scheme is defined as a company that does not promote the sales of products. They are most interested in sponsoring new distributors. So, as long as the MLM company that you get involved with promotes building a stable retail foundation, your company is legal.

It appears that many companies that get into trouble are sometimes not even aware that their business is being ruined by their distributors. This is a huge concern. So, when seeking a home based business, be sure to research if they have had any difficulties with any legal entities.

The better companies of the new millennium are more interested in selling retail products and more importantly, they will teach you how to accomplish that. Once you develop your retail base, start sponsoring distributors and teach them to do the same. Your personal volume will stay high. The personal volume of your team will be stable while showing your new distributors some commissions. Of most importance, there will be a strong foundation to your business and with continued efforts the business will grow and will grow more quickly.

Whenever you are invited to check out any potential business opportunity, be careful not to get too excited when you hear claims of potential income. There is definitely no free lunch! Just as with any traditional business, hard work and continuous effort is required for success. The sooner you realize this, the better off you will be.

Serious efforts will result in a legitimate business. There have been many people that create a home based business which replaces a full time job! You can do the exact same thing. It will take commitment and continuity, but your success will happen if a plan is developed and followed.
